Fayetteville Woodpeckers News Release
Fayetteville, NC - Miguel Palma drove in all three runs for the Fayetteville Woodpeckers (21-28) on Friday night while Bryant Salgado and Miguel Ullola combined to shutout the Fredericksburg Nationals (25-23) in a 3-0 victory at Segra Stadium. The shutout was the second for Fayetteville this week and third of the series after the Woodpeckers were blanked 6-0 on Thursday.
Justin Williams made his 2022 debut and drilled a double off the center field wall in his first at bat to start a rally in the second against Andry Lara (L, 1-3) . In the next at bat, Miguel Palma lined a double into the left field corner that opened the scoring 1-0. Palma drove in another run in the fourth inning on an infield grounder to make it 2-0. Lara allowed the two runs and still delivered a quality start.
Salgado W, (3-3) held steady with the lead, pitching five scoreless innings while setting a new season-high with seven strikeouts. He navigated around baserunners as well, standing a runner in four of his five innings while on the hill.
Ullola (SV, 1) took over from the bullpen in the sixth and quickly retired the Fredericksburg side in order behind a pair of strikeouts.
In the bottom of the seventh, Palma provided another run with a solo homer off Marc Davis. The blast cleared the berm down the left field line for Palma's third homer of the season and a 3-0 lead.
Ullola carried the shutout the rest of the way, striking out two in the seventh, two more in the eighth, and retiring the side in order in a game-sealing ninth inning.
The series continues on Saturday night with first pitch scheduled for 5:05 pm ET. The Woodpeckers will start RHP Christian Mejias (1-1, 3.57 ERA) and the FredNats will counter with Jackson Rutledge (0-3, 11.45 ERA).
