PALM BEACH SLAMMED EARLY IN 7-3 LOSS

The Palm Beach Cardinals fell behind after Lakeland Tigers third baseman Wilkin Ramirez launched a first-inning grand slam and never recovered, dropping their second straight, 7-3, at Roger Dean Stadium. The grand slam was the 4th homerun of the year for Ramirez and 7th given up by Cardinals starter, Mark Michael. Michael (1-4) has gone seven starts since picking up a victory against Jupiter on April 7. The right-hander allowed only one more run after the Ramirez slam, pitching six innings, allowing one walk and fanning eight. Tigers' starter Andrew Kown (2-0), used the four run cushion, to breeze through seven innings, surrendering only four hits, a run and striking out five. Kown has been lights out since being called-up from the West Michigan Whitecaps as a reliever, as his ERA dropped to 1.64. Palm Beach right fielder Terry Evans continues to amaze, hitting his league-leading 12th homerun and also swiped his 17th stolen base. Ryan Barthelemy and Mike Ferris each had two hits for the Cardinals.

TIGERS ON THE PROWL

- The Lakeland Tigers come into Roger Dean Stadium for the 1st time since losing the 2005 Florida State League Championship in 5 games. The Tigers are currently tied a top the Western Division with Dunedin. Lakeland is currently hitting .250 as a team and are T-4th with 30 HR, but lead the FSL with 378 Ks. On the other end, the pitching staff is last with a team ERA of 4.07 and in strikeouts with 257 punch outs.

- The Tigers are definitely getting hot at the right time, winning 8 of their last 10. Currently have a road record of 11-9

- Last year the two teams split the regular season series 4-4, with Palm Beach winning 3 of 4 at home.

MAY WE MOVE ON

- The Month of May has been unkind to the Cardinals, BUT after Thursday's break-out performance there's still hope of turning things around. Palm Beach hasn't strung together back-to-back victories since April 29-30 (Both at Vero). The offense has scored more than 5 runs two times, scoring 8 runs in a victory at Clearwater and Thursday's splash of 17. As a team, the Cardinals are batting .235 with 13 homeruns in the month, but have been collected strikeouts at a rapid pace: 592 AB - 146 K. Outfielder Sean Danielson has been missed at the top of the line-up, as he finally returned last night (0-2, R) after being out with a hamstring pull since May 12. Danielson is the only hitter with a May average over .300 (49 AB - 17 H: .306). With their lead-off man being out for most of the month, the Cardinals running game has been halted, stealing only 15 bases after swiping 31 in April.

- In May, the pitching staff has performed better at times, carried by the bullpen work of Tyler Adamcyzk (10.2 IP - 2.53 ERA), Dennis Dove (9.1 IP - 0.96 ERA), Matt Scherer (9.1 IP - 2.89 ERA) and Mike Sillman (6.0 IP - 0.00 ERA).

- On Tuesday, Palm Beach will face Sarasota (4 games) for the first time, before returning home to play the 2nd Fins vs. Feathers series (5/27 - 5/31)
