JUPITER, FL- The Palm Beach Cardinals pounded out sixteen hits to defeat the Daytona Cubs, 11-4, taking the series opener at Roger Dean Stadium.
The Cardinals (12-7) put the game out of reach early, scoring ten runs in the first four frames.
In the second inning, Cardinals third baseman Ryan Barthelemy blasted his second homerun of the season, high into the night sky, scoring Juan Lucena. The middle of the line-up consisting of Barthelemy, Terry Evans and Mike Ferris went 9-for-13 on the night, scoring six runs and driving in five.
Mitchell Boggs (1-2) cruised for his first win, allowing one run on three hits and striking out five, during his six innings of work. Boggs was followed by relievers Jose Garcia, Zach Zuercher and Justin Garza, each working an inning of relief.
Daytona (8-11) starter Grant Johnson will try to put this start behind him, allowing six earned runs on eight hits and walking three. Johnson (2-2) has allowed sixteen hits in just 8 1/3 innings against Palm Beach this season.
Eric Haberer (1-1, 4.42) will toe the mound for the Cardinals tomorrow night against Matt Weber (0-2, 10.66). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
