
Miracle Add Mijares, Callahan to DL

FORT MYERS, FL (April 26, 2006) - The last time left-handed pitcher Jose Mijares had a Fort Myers Miracle jersey on he promptly hurled five perfect innings, before being removed du to pitch count. Mijares will join the Miracle in 2006 and take the roster spot of Ryan Callahan who was placed on the DL.
Mijares started the final game of 2006 and retired 15 straight batters while striking out seven. The 21-year-old was a non drafted free agent signee by the Minnesota Twins in 2002 and is currently on the 40 man roster. Mijares joined the Miracle in August of 2005 and pitched out of the bullpen, with the exception of the final day of the season. He was 0-0, 1.50 in five games. In 12.0 innings he allowed just two earned run while striking out 17 and allowing the opposition a .116 average. He spent most of the season at Single-A Beloit where he was 6-3, 4.31 and two saves in 20 games. As a reliever he was 4-0, 1.78 and two saves in 14 games.
Callahan goes on the seven day disabled. The 25-year-old left hander was 1-2, 1.50 in six games this season. In 12.0 innings Callahan allowed just two earned runs, while walking seven and striking out six while the opposition hit just .175 against him.
The Miracle roster now stands at the maximum 25 players. 12 pitchers and 13 position players.
