Pair of Wins Earns McGovern Weekly Honours

WINNIPEG, MB - Winnipeg Goldeyes' left-hander Kevin McGovern has been named the American Association's Pitcher of the Week for May 29th-June 4th.

McGovern was 2-0 with a 3.60 ERA in two starts last week. On Tuesday, McGovern pitched into the ninth inning in a win over the Sioux Falls Canaries. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native allowed four earned runs on six hits, walking none, and striking out seven. At one point, McGovern retired 18 Canaries' batters in a row.

On Sunday afternoon, McGovern helped the Goldeyes to a rubber match victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs. The 28-year-old held Lincoln to two earned runs on just four hits over seven innings. McGovern walked two while striking out a season-high eight batters.

For the season, McGovern is tied for the American Association lead with three wins, and has a 3.14 ERA in four starts.

McGovern is the third Goldeye to earn weekly accolades this season. Shawn Pleffner (week ending on May 21st) and Wes Darvill (week ending on May 28th) have each taken home Batter of the Week honours.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes open a three-game series against the Sioux City Explorers at Lewis and Clark Park on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. All the action can be heard locally on 93.7 FM CJNU and worldwide at www.cjnu.ca
