MISSOULA, Mont. - With an early outburst and an answer in the fifth inning, the Missoula Osprey scored four runs in an inning twice to defeat the Orem Owlz 8-4 in front of 2,082 fans at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. The pitching staff answered the offense's success with no earned runs spread over four twirlers, including the winning pitcher Lawrence Pardo (1-1).
Missoula (15-17) opened its scoring in the first inning with a Fernery Ozuna RBI triple to plate Sergio Alcanta, who led off the inning with a single. The triple was Ozuna's first of the season in a Missoula uniform. Justin Williams then sent a bouncer to Orem shortstop Wendell Soto to score Ozuna and the Osprey led by two runs. After a Kevin Cron walk, Trevor Mitsui sent his team-leading sixth home run of the season just over the right field wall and Missoula led 4-0.
Orem (21-11) would answer with an unearned run in the second inning off Osprey starter Dallas Newton. The Owlz would leave the bases loaded but put on another rally with a three-run third inning. All runs were unearned off Newton with a pair of Missoula's three errors in the night coming before the first out was recorded. Newton would go four innings and give up seven hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
Lawrence Pardo came on in relief in the fifth inning with one hit and one strikeout in two shutout innings to gather the win. Jency Solis followed his success with only a hit batter to his line in two quick innings. Missoula closer Brody Greer was called upon in the ninth and loaded the bases but struck out the side, including the last two batters of the game, Orem's Ryan Seiz and Natanael Delgado. Over the last seventeen innings, the Missoula pitching staff has not given up an earned run.
Missoula's second offensive explosion occurred in the fifth inning. The Osprey churned out five singles, including three in a row from Justin Williams, Kevin Cron, and Trevor Mitsui. B.J. Lopez walked with the bases loaded to score the second run of the inning and Tyler Humphreys had the last hit of the inning to plate two with his left field single.
Missoula continues its seven-game home stretch tomorrow at 5:05 p.m. against the Orem Owlz in the second matchup of a four-game series. Tickets for all Osprey games are available at the MSO Hub Box Office, by phone at (406) 543-3300 and online at MissoulaOsprey.com.
