FORT MYERS, Fla. - Trevor Larnach knocked in his 12th run of the season, but the Miracle offense managed just three hits in a series opening 7-1 loss to the first place Palm Beach Cardinals on Thursday night at Hammond Stadium.
Larnach's first inning sacrifice fly gave the Miracle an early 1-0 advantage. His 12 RBI lead the team.
Palm Beach answered with three runs in the third. Yariel Gonzalez, Luken Baker, and Nick Dunn all collected RBI for the Cardinals.
Leading 3-1 in the sixth, the Cardinals used another big inning to increase their lead, striking for four runs.
The Miracle turned four double plays in the loss, including an outfield assist from Aaron Whitefield to end the seventh. Whitefield had two outfield assists in the game.
Tyler Watson (0-3) dropped his third straight decision. The left-hander surrendered five runs in five plus innings of work. He walked three and struck out two.
Johan Oviedo (4-0) won his fourth straight outing after yielding one run across 6.2 innings. Oviedo walked three and struck out four.
The four-game series continues on Friday night in Fort Myers. Bailey Ober (1-0, 0.00), who has yet to allow an earned run in 18 innings, will start for the Miracle. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
