Paints show Washington a thing or two

Washington, PA– The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, dropped a close one to the Chillicothe Paints with a final score of 2-1. With Evansville's loss on the night, Washington will maintain the 3.5 game lead in the Eastern Division.

John Martinez went the distance for the Paints in his first appearance against Washington this season. He surrendered only one run on six hits while striking out five.

The Wild Things were the first to score as Joel Buchenauer tripled to lead of the bottom of the third inning and was knocked in by Jack Headley on a fielder's choice. Buchenauer led the Wild Things bats as he recorded two hits in four at bats.

The Paints were able to capitalize on a couple of Wild Things' errors in the top of the fourth. Adrian Gascon scored the first of two runs in the inning and also led the Paints with a 3-for-4 day at the plate.

Wild Things pitcher Grant Dorn threw 6.0 innings giving up only six hits and two unearned runs. He also struck out three. Jim Popp came in for three relief innings and only surrendered three hits with no runs and two strikeouts.

The Wild Things will now head to Evansville for a three game series who will be trying to make up 3.5 games in the standings. The two teams sit at first and second in the Eastern Division. Tomorrow night's probable starters are Eric Fischer (4-6, 5.03 ERA) and Andre Simpson (5-4, 5.45 ERA). Game time is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
