Billings Mustangs News Release
Billings, MT-The Missoula Paddleheads (16-2) offense flexed its muscles again in the final game of the three game series in Billings as they down the Billings Mustangs (7-11) 8-5.
Missoula got on the board early scoring four runs in the second inning. After Mustangs starting pitcher Adolfo Espinoza used just six pitches to retire the side in order in the first, the Paddleheads strung together four straight hits to start the second. The four hits included three straight doubles by Nick Gatewood, Jared Akins and Aaron Bond. They led 4-0 after two innings of play.
The Paddleheads followed that up with two more runs in the third and fourth each. Brandon Riley hit a solo-home run to start the third inning, his second of the Pioneer League season. Nick Gatewood would hit a sacrifice fly later that inning as well.
The Mustangs came right back with four runs in the third. Billings strung five hits together of their own in the inning. A Jalen Garcia triple scored two. The triple was Garcia's second of the year, and he now boasts a five game hit streak. Chris Salvey in his first game as a Mustang doubled home two as well.
A Sam Troyer double in the fourth drove home two and those would be all the runs the Paddleheads needed to sweep the Mustangs. Their bullpen would combine to throw four scoreless frames and allowed just one baserunner which was a walk in the ninth inning.
The Paddleheads hand the Mustangs their fourth straight loss, their longest losing streak of the season.
The Mustangs and Paddleheads square off for a three game series starting tomorrow in Missoula. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM and don't forget to catch the pre-game show starting at 6:45 P.M. on ESPN Billings 910 AM/105.5 FM or online at espn910.com.
