Boise Hawks News Release
Boise, ID - The Boise Hawks were unable to make the most of their opportunities on Friday night as they were shutout in a 8-0 loss to the Great Falls Voyagers.
Friday's game started as a pitchers duel, which was quite spectacular considering both of the starters have been relievers for most of this 2021 season, with Matt Gabbert making his first as a professional start for the Hawks, and Ari Kaufman making just his second start this year in his fifth appearance.
Gabbert would go five and two thirds, allowing four runs before handing the ball off to his bullpen, but Ari Kaufman did even better than that, allowing no Hawks to cross the plate over six strong innings that saw him strike out five and scatter six hits.
The Voyagers managed to score three in the sixth and two in the seventh to take a six run lead that would be more than enough, as Brock Riley turned in a performance maybe more impressive than his Kaufman's, going three innings out of the pen, striking out six and finishing off the shutout for Great Falls.
Boise stranded runners on base all night long including three in the fourth, and two in the fifth, six and seventh, ending the night leaving 11 men on base.
With the victory the Voyagers have taken two in a row and now lead the series two games to one over Boise. Game four will see the Hawks trot right-hander, Mitch Lines out to the mound, where he will match-up against a lefty from Great Falls, Quincy Jones.
First pitch for Saturday's game is scheduled for 7:15 PM, as the Hawks look to even the series at two apiece.
