Pachot double rallies Ducks

Early season games up north just don't seem to go well for the Lancaster Barnstormers.

John Pachot doubled home two runs with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, giving the Long Island Ducks a 6-5 victory over the Barnstormers on a misty night at Citibank Park.

Working with a 5-3 lead, Ryan Cullen (0-1) retired Preston Wilson to start the 10th inning, but Ron Davenport reached him for a double to right. Raul Gonzalez followed with an RBI single up the middle to bring the Ducks within one. Johnny Hernandez flied out to shallow right field, and Cullen had Alex Prieto down at 1-2. Prieto worked out a walk, and Pachot cranked a 3-1 pitch deep into the left center alley, easily scoring both runners for the win.

L.J. Biernbaum had given the Barnstormers the lead with a one-out two-run homer down the right field line in the top of the inning.

For a second straight night, Lancaster grabbed a 2-0 lead in the fourth. Lloyd Turner reached on an infield single to open the inning. He was put in motion with Danny Bravo at the plate, and Bravo rolled a grounder past third baseman Ray Navarrete for an RBI double. Bravo moved to third on a fly ball by Biernbaum and scored on Ryan Mulhern's liner to left field.

The Barnstormers tacked on another run in the fifth but squandered an opportunity to put the Ducks away. Bryan Sabatella bunted for a single and moved to third on Adam Shorsher's double down the third base line. Rodney Medina brought the run across with a single to left for a 3-0 lead, but Brad Halsey retired the next three batters on two pop ups to first and a strikeout, freezing Shorsher at third.

Zack Parker retired the first two hitters in the bottom of the fifth and had an 0-2 count on Gabe Suarez but hit him with a pitch. He also plunked Navarrete, then walked Lew Ford before Wilson grounded a two-run single up the middle, shaving the Lancaster lead to one.

Long Island tied the game in the eighth. Wilson greeted Jon Huber with a long double to center and moved to third on a grounder by Davenport. Gonzalez grounded to Bravo at second, but the throw home failed to get Wilson as Long Island evened the score at 3-3.

The Barnstormers and Ducks play two more this week at Citibank Park, then the Barnstormers return home Friday to take on Camden at 7:00. Fireworks will follow a 6:30 game on Saturday.

NOTES: Turner reached base more than once for the tenth straight game...The streak of innings without allowing a homer has reached 102 for the Lancaster staff...Lancaster has outhomered the opposition, 14-1, this season...The Barnstormers are 1-6 in games decided by two or fewer runs...Trey Hodges (0-1) will face Ken Ray (1-0) in the Wednesday night game set for 6:35.
