Riversharks Win Game One vs. Bluefish, 5-2, game two postponed

The Camden Riversharks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 5 to 2 in the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday. Riversharks starter Tom Davey pitched five innings and allowed only six hits and one earned run, improving his record to 2-0 on the season. Dan Reichert (0-2) took the loss for the Bluefish, allowing five hits and five earned runs in 5.1 innings pitched.
Things got off to an auspicious start for the Riversharks, as pitcher Tom Davey retired the top of the Bridgeport lineup in order in the first inning. Then, leadoff hitter Chris Walker got Camden out to an early lead with a solo homerun in the bottom of the inning.
The Bluefish were quick to respond, as they knotted the game at one in the top of the third. Second baseman Henry Mateo laced a two-out single to left field, and then advanced to second base on a wild pitch by Davey. The next batter was Ed Rogers, who singled to center field, bringing Mateo across the plate.
Camden retook the lead in the fourth inning. With two runners aboard, designated hitter Vito Chiaravolloti crushed Bluefish pitcher Dan Reichert's offering over the left field wall for a three run homerun, and gave the home team a 4 to 1 lead.
Felix Rodriguez relieved Riversharks starter Tom Davey in the sixth , and found himself in a jam as Bridgeport threatened a late rally. After retiring the first two batters he faced, Rodriguez walked the bases loaded. But with two outs and the bases full, left fielder Travis Ezi harmlessly flied out to center field and ended Bridgeport's chance to get back in the game.
An RBI single by Vito Chiaravollotti gave the Riversharks an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, and Camden took a 6 to 1 lead into the seventh and final inning. Right handed reliever Tracy Thorpe came in to finish off the game, and despite giving up one run, he did manage to rebuff Bridgeport's final bid at a comeback.
The second game of tonight's doubleheader is postponed. A doubleheader will be played tomorrow, with game 1 starting at 5:05pm. Tickets for tonight's game can be exchanged at the box office for tickets to any game in the future.
