(SALEM, VA) The Potomac Nationals put on perhaps their most impressive display of 2010 in a 6-0 shutout of the Salem Red Sox Sunday afternoon to secure a series victory and gain a game in the Northern Division standings.

Robinson Fabian had his best start of the season, dominating the Sox lineup over seven scoreless innings. Salem mustered just four hits against the big righthander, and remarkably only had a three-ball count two times among the 24 batters that came to the plate.

The P-Nats scored right out of the gates. Boomer Whiting opened the game with an infield single, and scored all the way from second on a Mike Burgess groundout.

They exploded for four runs in the fourth. Burgess walked to lead off the frame and scored on Tyler Moore's double to the center field wall. Brian Peacock then singled to put runners at the corners, and would score when Nick Moresi grounded out to shortstop. Will Ortiz then crushed the next pitch over the left field wall for his first homer of the year and it was 5-0.

They tacked on their fifth and final run in the next inning, when Moore doubled again to score Steve Lombardozzi, who had walked with one out. From the second to the sixth innings, Fabian retired twelve consecutive hitters. In the sixth, a pair of singles put a runner at second base for the only time all day. But Fabian induced a ground ball to Ortiz at third to end the threat.

Potomac got a scoreless inning from each Evan Bronson and Cole Kimball to seal their fourth shutout of 2010. The Nats are now 5-2 in rubber matches, 6-4 in day games, and 9-4 in series finales.

The P-Nats return home to open a three-game series with the Kinston Indians Monday Night. It is a 1 Dollar Monday presented by the Washington Post, so get your tickets by calling 703-590-2311.
