Providence Bruins News Release
Hershey, PA -- Chris Bourque scored two goals and added an assist in the Providence Bruins' 5-1 win over the Hershey Bears in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals at the Giant Center. The team scored twice on the power play and turned an early deficit into a tie game courtesy of the game's first star.
The Bears scored the first goal of the contest for the third time in as many games this series. With 16:16 left in the first, Michael Latta scored his second lamplighter of the set. He buried a rebound from the far side after Nicolas Deschamps had the initial shot. Deschamp received a feed from Cameron Schilling to set up the scoring chance.
For the second game in a row, a former Hershey Bear scored to tie the game. Bourque knotted the contest up at one apiece less than five minutes later with a deflection onto the crossbar and into the back of the net. Craig Cunningham snapped the shot off from just inside the blue line, thanks to some help from Garnet Exelby.
Providence took a 2-1 lead in the second with Bobby Robins scoring his first goal of the playoffs. Robins' wrister from just inside the blue line landed inside the near post past Bears Goalie Philipp Grubauer. Kevan Miller got the primary assist in his first professional playoff game and Justin Florek added a helper of his own.
The Bruins took the team's largest lead of the series at a 3-1 advantage later in the period. Bourque turned a fake slapper into a slap pass to the nearside doorstep, where Jamie Tardif was waiting with a redirection into a half empty net. Ryan Spooner had the secondary assist on the P-Bruins' second power play goal of the series.
The Bears had eight minutes of power play time in the middle frame and had ample opportunities to score, but Niklas Svedberg and the Providence defense held strong, including for a four-minute stretch that featured two minutes of five-on-three time for the home team.
Bourque got his third point of the night with an insurance goal at the 4:07 mark of the third period with a 3-on-2 opportunity. Spooner recorded the lone assist. Carter Camper capped the night's scoring with an unassisted goal while on the man advantage. Camper forced a turnover in the near circle and beat Grubauer to take a 5-1 lead.
