
P-Bruins Shutout Falcons 3-0

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins shutout the Springfield Falcons 3-0 Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Mikko Lehtonen, Martins Karsums and Wacey Rabbit. Tuukka Rask made 23 saves on the way to his third shutout of the season. The first place P-Bruins are back at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday, January 2 versus the Hershey Bears at 7:05 p.m. for Kid's Hat Night.
After a scoreless opening period, the P-Bruins got on the board with a power play at the 6:16 mark of the second period. Peter Schaefer sent the puck from the corner to Andrew Bodnarchuk at the left point. He dropped the puck off to Lehtonen, who skated in the slot and netted his seventh goal of the season. Providence took a 2-0 advantage with another power play goal, this time at the 14:21 mark. Johnny Boychuk held the puck at the blue line and sent it to Rabbit halfway down the right boards. He found Karsums in the corner who scored his 12th goal of the season by going five-hole on Falcons net minder Devan Dubnyk. The P-Bruins took a 2-0 lead into the second intermission.
In the third period, the P-Bruins padded their lead with a goal at the 17:28 mark. Jordan Knackstedt tipped the puck into the zone for Jeremy Reich, who passed it off to Rabbit in the right face off circle. Rabbit tallied his fourth goal of the season as Providence went onto the 3-0 victory.
Rask stopped all 23 shots he faced for the P-Bruins, while Dubnyk made 32 saves for the Falcons. The P-Bruins were 2-for-6 on the power play and 9-for-9 on the penalty kill.
