December 21, 2008 - The Springfield Falcons lost to the Providence Bruins 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, RI. The Falcons will now enter their holiday break and will be back in action on Friday, December 26 when they host the Manchester Monarchs at the MassMutual Center.
In a penalty filled first period, each team had mutliple power play chances in the opening 20 minutes, but Springfield's Devan Dubnyk and Providence's Tuukka Rask kept the game scoreless.
In the second period, Providence broke the scoreless tie with a pair of power play goals from Martins Karsums and Mikko Lehtonen in the middle period to take a 2-0 lead into the final 20 minutes of play.
Providence's Wacey Rabbit added an insurance marker in the third period concluding a 3-0 Bruins win over the Falcons.
Springfield's Guillaume Lefebvre and Providence's Byron Bitz each collected fighting majors in the first period with Lefebvre winning the fight.
The Falcons will now be off from Monday-Thursday with players reporting back on Christmas Night to get ready for three games next weekend.
Providence goaltender Tuukka Rask has shutout the Falcons twice this year.
