Iowa Chops News Release
Thanks to a late 2nd period goal and two more in the 3rd period, the Milwaukee Admirals broke open a 1-1 tie with three unanswered goals to defeated the Iowa Chops 4-1 Sunday in Milwaukee. The 1st period was scoreless for both team, although it wasn't for a lack of chances. The Chops outshot the Admirals 9-8 in the period as got some good goaltending by JP Levasseur who help snuff out two Milwaukee Admirals power plays. The best chance for the Chops in the first period came off a Drew Miller chance in front, but Milwaukee goaltender Mark Dekanich was equal to the task. The 2nd period started with the Admirals getting on the board first thanks to a goal from Nick Spaling, who came in on an odd-man rush and fired a shot from the slot, which deflected off a Chops stick and in behind Levasseur for a 1-0 Admirals lead. The Chops continued to pressure the net and answered back with a tip in goal from Drew Miller, who was parked in front and tipped home a shot from the point by Brennan Evans. Petteri Wirtanen also assisted on the play. Milwaukee would make Iowa pay late in the period, as with under a minute remaining Jed Ortmeyer got free from his man and took a pass from Ryan Jones right in front and tucked a shot underneath Levasseur for a 2-1 Milwaukee lead after two periods. The momentum from Ortmeyers first goal transferred into the 3rd period, where another goal by Ortmeyer and another from Stephen Werner increased the lead to 4-1. The Iowa Chops had three late power plays, but Dekanich kept the puck out the rest of the way to send the Chops into the holiday break with only one win in their last six games.
