P-Bruins fall to sharks 5-3

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the Worcester Sharks 5-3 Sunday afternoon at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts. The P-Bruins got a goal from Petteri Nokelainen and two goals from Jeff Hoggan. The P-Bruins now travel to the Hartford Civic Center to take on the Hartford Wolf Pack Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The P-Bruins will be hosting a road game party that night at FiRE + iCE. Fans will have their first chance to watch the 2007-08 P-Bruins while winning autographed prizes.

The Sharks took the 1-0 lead at the 13:56 mark of the opening period. Brad Staubitz took a shot and P-Bruin net minder Tuukka Rask made the save. The rebound landed on the stick of Ashton Rome and he scored. Craig Valette had the second assist. Providence tied the game at one with a power play goal with 7.7 seconds left in the period. Nokelainen put the puck past Worcester goaltender Thomas Greiss while on the power play, off a shot from the right face off circle. Byron Bitz and Matt Lashoff recorded the assists as the game went into the first intermission tied at one.

In the second period, Worcester scored twice to take a 3-1 lead. At the 9:09 mark, while on the power play Mike Iggulden scored his second goal of the season with Sandis Ozolinsh and Tom Cavanagh getting the assists. Less than two minutes later at the 11:06 mark, the Sharks took a two goal advantage when Nate Raduns scored his fourth goal of the season. Dennis Packard and Jonathan Tremblay picked up the assists. Providence went into the second intermission down only a goal after Hoggan scored at the 12:40 mark. Bitz had the puck behind the net and passed it in front to Hoggan who was parked just outside the crease. Brett Skinner grabbed the second assist.

In the third period, the P-Bruins tied the game three at the 4:12 mark. Wacey Rabbit worked the puck out of the corner and sent it towards the net. Chris Collins took a shot and the rebound came to Hoggan, who scored. Worcester retook the lead at the 9:01 mark when the P-Bruins turned the puck over in their own end. It turned into a 2-on-1 for the Sharks with T.J. Fox scoring and Graham Mink and Packard recording the assists. The Sharks added an empty net goal with 5.5 seconds left in the game. Raduns scored it unassisted as Worcester went on to win by a 5-3 final.

Rask played in net for the P-Bruins stopping 22 of 26 shots, while Greiss made 39 saves for the Sharks. The P-Bruins were 1-for-4 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.
