Chicago Wolves News Release

PEORIA, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves built a two-goal lead in the first period and held on to defeat the Peoria Rivermen, 4-2, at Carver Arena on Sunday night. The Wolves have won their first four games to begin the season, which is the best start in franchise history.

Right wing Jesse Schultz tallied two of Chicago's three goals, which includes the eventual game-winner midway through the third period, just 30 seconds after Peoria tied the game, 2-2. Right wing Joey Crabb worked the puck out of the corner and slipped a feed to Schultz who ripped it top shelf, short side, by Rivermen netminder Jason Bacashihua to make the score 3-2 with 9:13 remaining in the game.

Center Andre Deveaux (G, A) and left wing Colin Stuart (G, A) also posted multiple points for Chicago (4-0-0-0) in the tilt. Wolves goaltender Fred Brathwaite (2-0-0) stopped 28 of 30 shots he faced in his second appearance this season, which includes holding Peoria (4-2-0-0) scoreless for a period of 32 minutes in the middle of the game.

Schultz opened the scoring for Chicago with his second marker of the season at 11:25 of the first period. Working on their third power play of the game, Wolves center Steve Martins streaked into the Peoria zone, slipped a pass across to Schultz, who deked to his backhand before firing the puck into the net past a diving Bacashihua.

Deveaux increased the Wolves' lead to 2-0 when he picked up the puck in the corner, drove to the front of the net and maneuvered the it under Bacashihua's leg at 13:10 of the opening frame.

Bacashihua (1-2-0) posted 18 saves for Peoria.

The Rivermen got on the board with 1:23 remaining in the first period to make the score 2-1. Chicago attempted to clear the puck from behind the net but lost control in a scrum to the right of the goal, leaving the puck free for Rivermen center Julian Talbot, who walked in and roofed it over Brathwaite.

The teams battled through a scoreless second period before Talbot tied things up with his second goal of the game at 10:47 of the third stanza. The center intercepted a pass and sprung out into the Chicago zone, pulling up and firing a shot between Brathwaite's legs, but the Wolves regained the lead less than a minute later.

Stuart tallied an empty-net goal with eight seconds remaining in the game to round out scoring at 4-2. The Wolves continue a stretch that sees the team play four games in seven days with a matchup against the San Antonio Rampage at the Allstate Arena on Wed., Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
