
P-Bruins Defeat Monarchs 5-2

Manchester, NH - The Providence Bruins defeated the Manchester Monarchs 5-2 Saturday evening at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The P-Bruins got their goals from Chris Collins, Jeff Hoggan, Pascal Pelletier and two goals from Brett Skinner. The 42-15-3-2 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Sunday for a Family Game versus the Worcester Sharks at the Dunkin' Donuts Center at 4:05 p.m. Providence remains seven points ahead of the second place Hartford Wolf Pack.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 6:16 mark of the opening period. Matt Hunwick sent the puck into the zone along the right board to Hoggan. From the corner he sent the puck in front of the crease, where Collins was to tip it into the net for his 16th goal of the season. The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, the P-Bruins took a 2-0 advantage at the 1:23 mark. Martins Karsums carried the puck into the zone and dropped it off to Wacey Rabbit. He sent it to Skinner along the right boards. Skinner shot the puck towards the goal and the puck went off the skate of Monarchs defenseman Jeff Likens and into the net. Providence took a 3-0 lead at the 10:16 mark. As the Monarchs were trying to clear their zone, Skinner stole the puck away and skated towards the right post of the net. He shot the puck between the legs of Manchester defenseman Patrik Hersley and over the shoulder of Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Quick, into the net for his second goal of the game and sixth of the season. The Monarchs pulled back within two goals at the 13:51 mark. Marc-Andre Cliche tallied his seventh goal of the season, with Brady Murray and Teddy Purcell recording the assists. With time running out in the period the P-Bruins scored at the 19:23 mark. Matt Hendricks sent the puck out of his own zone to Hoggan cutting down the left wing. He took a shot from the left face off circle and fluttered the puck past Quick and into the net for his 25th goal of the season, giving the P-Bruins a 4-1 lead heading into the second intermission.
In the third period, the Monarchs once again cut the P-Bruins lead to two at the 2:53 mark. David Meckler tallied his 17th goal of the season, with Brian Boyle and Paul Crosty picking up the assists. Providence scored at the 5:05 mark to retake a three goal advantage. Hunwick sent the puck to Pelletier in the corner and he sent the puck between the post and Monarchs goaltender Daniel Taylor, into the net for his 30th goal of the season. Sean Curry had the second assist as the P-Bruins go onto the 5-2 victory, snapping a five game winless streak.
Tuukka Rask stopped 27 of 29 shots for the P-Bruins, while Quick made 18 saves and Taylor made eight saves for the Monarchs. The P-Bruins were 0-for-2 on the power play, while the Monarchs did not receive a power play opportunity.
The Atlantic Division-leading P-Bruins return to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday, March 9 versus the Worcester Sharks for a Family Game at 4:05 p.m. The P-Bruins also have Family Games Saturday, March 15 against the San Antonio Rampage at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday, March 16 versus the Lowell Devils at 4:05 p.m. Receive one ticket, hot dog and soda starting as low as $16.
