P-Bruins Defeat IceHogs in a shootout 5-4

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Rockford IceHogs 5-4 in a shootout Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from T.J. Trevelyan, Chris Collins, David Krejci and Nate DiCasmirro. The 15-3-2 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Saturday at The Dunkin' Donuts Center to take on the Rochester Americans at 7:05 p.m.

In the first period the IceHogs took a 1-0 lead only 1:02 into the game. Bryan Bickell scored glove side of P-Bruins goaltender Mike Brown with Jordan Hendry and Jack Skille recording the assists. The P-Bruins went into the locker room tied at one after scoring at the 11:58 mark. Byron Bitz passed the puck off to Trevelyan as he snuck it past Rockford net minder Corey Crawford. Matt Lashoff picked up the second assist.

In the second period Rockford retook the lead while on the power play at the 9:58 mark. Cam Barker tallied his seventh goal of the season with Petry Kontiola and Martin St. Pierre getting the assists. Once again the P-Bruins bounced back to tie the game at two. At the 10:37 mark, Collins stole the puck at the IceHogs blue line and passed it off to Krejci. He slid it back to Collins, who was waiting just outside the crease. Collins slipped the puck between the post and the left skate of Crawford and into the net. The IceHogs scored once more in the second period to take a 3-2 lead into the second intermission. Michael Blunden scored at the 17:38 mark while on the power play with former P-Bruin Kris Versteeg and Prestin Ryan recording the assists.

In the third period, the P-Bruins took their first lead of the game scoring twice in the span of eight seconds. At the 6:03 mark, Krejci intercepted a pass to score unassisted. At the 6:11 mark Nate Thompson won the face off at center ice and worked the puck off to Collins. He passed it to a wide open DiCasmirro in front of the net who scored top shelf on Crawford. The IceHogs battled back to tie the game and send it into overtime. At the 15:57 mark, St. Pierre shot the puck from the high slot. The puck ricocheted off the left post and into the net. Versteeg grabbed his second assist of the game and Troy Brouwer had the other helper.

After a scoreless overtime the P-Bruins started off the shootout with a goal from Krejci. In round four, the IceHogs tied up the shootout on a goal from Skille. In the fifith round Jeff Hoggan put the P-Bruins back on top in the shootout. Brown stopped the final shooter for the IceHogs, Brouwer, as Providence went on to the 5-4 shootout victory.

Brown stopped 27 of 31 shots for the P-Bruins, while Crawford made 37 saves for the IceHogs. The P-Bruins were 0-for-4 on the power play and 1-for-3 on the penalty kill.
