Norfolk Admirals News Release
ALBANY, NY - Norm Milley and Adam Henrich scored late goals for the Norfolk Admirals (8-11-1-2) to force overtime. However, Ryan Bayda's goal with 24 seconds left in overtime gave the Albany River Rats (12-8-0-2) a 4-3 win over the Admirals on Friday night at the Times Union Center.
Chris Lawrence opened scoring for Norfolk at 10:49 of the opening period. He collected a turnover in the Albany zone and snapped a shot from the right circle that beat River Rats goaltender Michael Leighton stick-side along the ice.
Albany's Kirk MacDonald knotted the score at 1-1 at 13:15 moments after a Norfolk penalty had expired. Brandon Nolan sent a backdoor pass from the right dot to MacDonald at the left dot. MacDonald shot it past a diving Norfolk netminder Jonathan Boutin. Boutin stopped 19 of 20 first period shots to keep the game tied.
Jamie Johnson gave Albany a 2-1 lead at 10:22 of the second stanza when his slap shot from the right circle beat Boutin's glove top shelf.
The River Rats benefited from a bad bounce behind the Admirals' net at 9:41 of the third period. David Gove stole the puck from a Norfolk defender and centered a pass to Mike Angelidis between the circles, who scored to give Albany a 3-1 lead.
But Norfolk battled back led by a Norm Milley goal just 49 seconds after the Angelidis tally. Adam Henrich stole the puck from a River Rats defender on the Albany goal line and chipped a pass to Milley behind the net. Milley emerged into the slot and sent a shot past Leighton stick-side at 10:30.
Henrich tied the game at 3-3 with 2:11 remaining in regulation. Justin Keller sent a shot from the right circle. Henrich found the rebound in the slot and sent it past Leighton for his first goal with Norfolk.
However, the River Rats won the game at 4:36 of overtime with an odd-man rush, as Keith Aucoin fed Ryan Bayda for the goal.
Jonathan Boutin (39 shots, 35 saves) was saddled with the loss. Michael Leighton (26 shots, 23 saves) got the victory.
The Admirals were 0-1 on the power play. Albany was 0-3.
Norfolk's road trip continues tomorrow night in Binghamton as the Senators and Admirals will square off at 7:05.
