Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans kicked off their weekend in New England with a 3-1 win over the Manchester Monarchs tonight in front of a crowd of 5,506 at the Verizon Wireless Center. With the win, Rochester improved to 10-10-1-2 on the season and 3-0-0 all-time against the Los Angeles Kings' affiliate. Mark Mancari led the Amerks with a three-point performance (2+1) to earn first star honors. Drew Larman notched two points (1+1) in his much anticipated return to the lineup after missing the past 12 games with a separated shoulder. Larman earned second star honors. Left wing Anthony Stewart produced two assists to extend his point-scoring streak to five games (3+6).

Brian Boyle scored the lone goal for Manchester to garner third star honors.

Adam Dennis kicked away 27 saves for Rochester, while Jonathan Quick made 22 saves in the losing effort between the pipes for Manchester.

Tonight's game also saw the return of forward Kenndal McArdle and defenseman Mike Funk to the lineup tonight. McArdle returns after being sidelined for the past 16 games after suffering a broken jaw in a fight against Manitoba's Jason Jaffray on October 16th. Funk retains his position on the blueline after sitting out the past nine games with a strained groin.

After a scoreless opening period, Larman made an immediate impact in his return by scoring the first goal of the contest and second of the season at 8:03 of the second frame. Mancari and Stewart each picked up assists on the play.

Boyle responded just over three minutes into the third period on the power play to tie the game one apiece for Manchester. Teddy Purcell and Kevin Westgrath were each credited with helpers on the Monarchs' only goal of the game. Purcell currently leads all offensive categories with seven goals and 21 assists for the Monarchs. His 28 points and 21 assists are currently a league best as he sits atop the American Hockey League. Further, Purcell is currently the top point-getter among all league rookies.

Mancari capped Rochester's scoring with back-to-back tallies, with his first coming just over a minute from Boyle's marker. Larman and Stewart received assists on Mancari's third goal of the season.

Mancari would then secure the win for the visiting Amerks with an empty goal with only seven ticks left on the clock.

The weekend road trip continues on Saturday night as the Amerks will face Rochester native Chris Collins and the Providence Bruins at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The 7:05 p.m. match-up will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 networks. It will be the second and final meeting between the squads this year. The Bruins skated past the Amerks to a 4-3 victory in the previous meeting between the two teams back on October 13th at The Blue Cross Arena. Rochester is 11-13-1 all-time against Providence.

The Amerks return home on Friday, December 7th as they play host to the Toronto Marlies for a 7:35 p.m. North Division showdown. The game will be the first visit for the Marlies to the Flower City and the second of eight scheduled games between the two teams this season.
