Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA- Matt Oye has excelled in practically every role the 66ers have slotted him in this season. Sunday proved no different as the right-hander pitched the Inland Empire (54-58, 22-20) to a 6-1 victory over the Lake Elsinore Storm (58-55, 26-17).

Making his fifth start of the season after stints as a closer and middle reliever, Oye tossed 6 1/3 innings of one-run baseball. He allowed just three hits and struck out seven. Oye showed impeccable control, walking just one man on the evening and not allowing a three-ball count till the seventh inning.

Buddy Boshers came on to relieve Oye in the seventh and pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Mike Kenney recorded the final four outs to preserve the victory.

Inland Empire got on the board in the third inning courtesy of Dwayne Bailey's RBI single, which brought home Steven Irvine with the first run of the ballgame. Matt Long and Kole Calhoun singled in solo runs in the fifth inning, and the 66ers scrapped for two additional runs in the seventh without recording a base hit. Adam Younger scored the sixth run of the game on a wild pitch in the eighth.

With game one of the three-game set in the books, Inland Empire will look to secure a series victory against the Storm on Monday. Manuel Flores (10-8, 5.78) will take the ball for the 66ers opposite Nick Schmidt (2-2, 2.10).
