Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(VISALIA, CA) - For the second straight night, late offense gave the JetHawks a chance to rally but they fall just short. Visalia held on for a 4-3 victory Monday night at Recreation Park. Lancaster is just 1-8 in Visalia over the last three seasons.
The Rawhide used strings of hits to put together an early lead. While Lancaster starter Robby Donovan avoided the big inning, Visalia scored once in the first inning, twice in the third, and once more in the fourth to open a 4-0 advantage. Donovan finished his outing with two scoreless innings and Wes Musick emerged from the bullpen with two shutout frames to give the offense time to come back.
The JetHawks finally broke through in the sixth inning, using several Rawhide mistakes along the way. Austin Wates and Jonathan Singleton each walked. An error pushed Wates in and put two runners on base. Jose Vallejo walked to load the bases and Rene Garcia delivered. Pressed into service when Federico Hernandez was injured in the first inning, Garcia lined ball to center field for a two run single.
Two runners were left on in that inning and while the JetHawks had a base runner in each of the next two frames, they were unable to plate the tying run.
Garcia was the only JetHawks with two hits. Jonathan Meyer extended his hit streak to 14 straight games, matching the longest of his career. He'll have an opportunity to match the longest streak for any JetHawk this season in his next game.
The JetHawks will try to avoid the sweep in Visalia Tuesday night. Jake Buchanan (5-7) will start for Lancaster against Santa Clarita native and former UCLA star Trevor Bauer (0-1) of the Rawhide. The game starts at 7:00 and will be broadcast live on radio by 87.7 Kickin' Country and online at CSN at JetHawks.com (click the listen live link). The Pre-Game Show starts at 6:45.
The JetHawks return home Thursday, August 11 to open a seven-game homestand against the San Jose Giants and the Modesto Nuts. For tickets and other information, call (661) 726-5400 or visit JetHawks.com.
