Northern Colorado Owlz News Release
The Owlz exploded for five home runs that led to 13 runs in a 13-6 win over the Great Falls Voyagers on Wednesday night. The win gave the Owlz the series sweep, and five wins during the seven-game homestand.
Taylor Lindsey hit two home runs, while C.J. Cron, Ryan Jones and Gary Mitchell each had a home run in the Owlz (21-15) blow out win.
For the seventh straight game, the Owlz had the opponent score first, but once again, the Owlz wasted very little time coming back in the game. The Voyagers (16-20) got one in the top of the 2nd on a RBI single by Martin Medina off of Nick Maronde. Maronde went four innings, giving up one run on five hits. He struck out five in the effective outing.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Trevor Hairgrove singled in Gary Mitchell to tie the game at one. The Owlz got three in the 3rd on two RBI singles by Jones and Mitchell and a sacrifice fly by Andrew Ray. That rally chased Scott Snodgress (0-1) from the game.
"The key was getting Snodgress out of the game because he's pretty good," said Manager Tom Kotchman.
The relief effort for the Voyagers did even worse, as Kevin Vance gave up four runs, two earned and Jamaal Hollis allowed five runs, three earned. The Voyagers committed five errors in the game- two by Medina and Kevan Smith and one by Mark Haddow.
"It was uncharacteristic of Great Falls to commit five errors....You got to take advantage of those things and I think we did tonight," said Kotchman.
Vance gave up two home runs; a solo shot to Lindsey and a 2-run home run to Cron, while Hollis gave up three long trippers. Lindsey, Mitchell and Jones all went deep in the five run 6th inning.
The win went to Garrett Baker (3-0) who threw three innings of one-run ball.
The Owlz have now won three in a row, and will head to Casper tomorrow to begin a 3-game series with the Casper Ghosts beginning on Friday.
Note: The Ogden Raptors magic number to clinch the first half title is now 1 with 2 games to play.
