Owlz Left Heartbroken in Ogden

OGDEN - The Ogden Raptors (6-6) stormed back with four runs in the ninth inning, beating the Orem Owlz (5-7), 6-5, on Tuesday night at Lindquist Field in Ogden.

The Owlz opened the scoring on Tuesday night, by taking the lead in the first inning. With one out, Kevin Maitan singled into left and then moved to second on an Orlando Martinez single to center. Francisco De Valle then singled to right field and Maitan scored when the ball was misplayed, giving the Owlz a 1-0 lead.

After Ogden tied the game in the bottom of the first, the Owlz took the lead right back in the second. Erven Roper picked up his first of three hits on the night by reaching on an infield single. Roper went first to third on a Mario Sanjur single and then scored on an Alvaro Rubalcaba sacrifice fly, putting the Owlz back in front, 2-1.

The Owlz added to their lead in the fourth inning. Mitch Spires singled and then came home to score on a Sanjur double. Roper picked up his second hit of the night with a two-run single in the fifth, extending the Owlz lead to 5-1.

Cole Densing worked a season-high five innings, allowing just one run, on one hit, in a no-decision.

Ogden inched closer in the eighth, scoring a run on a ground out. Ogden opened the bottom of the ninth inning with a walk. After a fly out, Niko Hulsizer then walked, while Jefry Souffront singled to load the bases. After a strike out, Jermey Arocha then doubled in a pair followed by a two-run double from Chris Roller, giving the Raptors a 6-5 win.

Ogden reliever Austin Hamilton (2-0) earned the win while Ben Morrison (0-1) was charged with the loss. The Owlz will play the Raptors in Ogden again tomorrow night as Hector Yan makes the start for the Owlz against Justin Lewis for the Raptors.
