MISSOULA, MONT - The Missoula Osprey (7-3) pursue their third consecutive series win Wednesday as they take on the Helena Brewers from Kindrick Legion Field at 7:05 pm to complete the series. The Osprey blanked the Brewers 2-0 Tuesday to even the series at one.
All the offense the Osprey needed in the game came in the first inning. Cesar Garcia and Zack Shannon drew walks to pave the way for Zach Almond, who roped a two-RBI single to right to give the Osprey a 2-0 lead off Brewers starter Aaron Ashby (0-1).
The Osprey threated in the second when Jesus Munoz led off with a single and Luis Cossio walked. Garcia drew his second free pass of the day to load the bases, but reliever Scott Sunitsch ended the threat by forcing a fly out.
Almond led off the third with a hit by pitch while Zack Jones laced a double for Missoula, but the Osprey stranded two more runners. Helena pitching left two Osprey runners on base in the fifth and sixth innings as well.
The Brewers never had more than one runner on base at a time against the Osprey pitching staff. Pedro Zorrilla (1-1) tossed five innings of shutout baseball to earn his first win. The lefty struck out two, allowed two hits, and did not walk a batter. Andy Toelken, Blake Workman, and Bryan Menendez completed the final four shutout frames as Menendez earned his first career save by pitching a scoreless ninth.
Helena finished with three hits and did not draw a walk Tuesday. Missoula drew nine walks offensively for the second time in the last three games against the Brewers.
Marcos Tineo (1-0) takes the mound for the Osprey in the series finale. The right-hander faced Great Falls June 22nd and tossed five innings of one run baseball to earn his first win with the Osprey. Tineo struck out three and walked one. His opposition is Max Lazar of the Brewers.
Lazar enters the season with two starts under his belt, owning a 0.79 ERA with a 1-0 record. In 11.1 innings, the right-hander has eight strikeouts with one earned run allowed. In his previous start against Billings, Lazar went 5.1 innings to earn his first victory, giving up one run on five hits.
Wednesday's game against the Brewers is slated for 7:05 pm from Kindrick Legion Field. The Selway Armory Pregame Show begins at 6:45 p.m. on ESPN 102.9 and the MiLB First Pitch App.
