Owlz Hang on for 5-4 Win at Billings

(Billings) - The Owlz put an end to a four-game losing streak, beating the Billings Mustangs, 5-4 on Saturday night at Dehler Park in Billings, Montana in the series opener.

Livan Soto started the game with a four-pitch walk and then stole second base, advancing to third on an error. After a one-out walk issued to Mitch Spires, Tim Millard singled to left, scoring Soto, giving the Owlz a 1-0 lead. The Owlz extended the lead to 2-0 with a run in the second inning when Francisco Del Valle was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Billings battled back to take the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Drew Mount opened the inning with a walk and moved to second when Bren Spillane was hit by a pitch. Jay Schuyler then singled in a run to put the Mustangs on the board. With two outs, Carlos Olivero singled in a pair, giving the Mustangs a 3-2 lead.

The Owlz took the lead back in the fifth. With one out and the bases loaded, Johan Sala grounded out, tying the game at three. With two outs, Mario Sanjur lined a single to left, scoring two runs, giving the Owlz a 5-3 lead.

Billings scored a run in the sixth but the Owlz held on for the 5-4 win. Rion Murrah (1-0) threw two scoreless for the win while Jared Soloman (3-1) was charged with the loss and Jake Lee (4) earned the save. The Owlz and the Mustangs continue the series tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 at Dehler Park.
