Owlz' Fast Start Propels 14-10 Win Over Chukars

IDAHO FALLS, ID. -- The Orem Owlz had three hits in all of the first game. The team scored four runs in the first inning of the second game. Orem knocks off the Idaho Falls Chukars 14-10 to even the two game series.

Chukars (1-1) starting pitcher Ashton Goudeau got tagged early by Orem hitters. Eric Aguilera started the scoring with a three-run first inning home run. The Owlz (1-1)scored four in the first, three in the second, and two in the third to build a 9-4 lead after three innings. Goudeau (0-1) was charged with all nine of those runs (eight earned) in 2.1 innings.

The Owlz continued the scoring in the fifth inning. Cambric Moye smacked his first home run of the season to increase the lead to 11-4. Of the nine batters that came to the plate for Orem, eight of them had RBIs in this contest. Aguilera led the way with four driven in.

The Chukars stayed within shouting distance. Carlos Garcia connected for the first Idaho Falls home run this season. His two run shot came in the second inning. Alexis Rivera had a productive day at the plate, tallying three hits while driving in two runs.

Reliever Daniel Hertado (1-0) picked up the first win for the Orem pitching staff. The righty pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in relief of starter Arjenis Fernandez. Fernandez finished one out away from being eligible for the win.

The Chukars begin their first road trip of the year tomorrow. Idaho Falls travels to Odgen to take on the Raptors. 2013 second round pick Cody Reed is slated to get the ball for Idaho Falls. Odgen is scheduled to counter with Jonathan Martinez.
