Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

The Hillcats earned a 3-2 win over the Pelicans on Saturday night at BB&T Coastal Field. Jared Keel (pictured) drove in a pair of runs in the win. The final game of the series is on Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. at Myrtle Beach and you can catch all the action on KD Country 105.5 FM.

It wasn't until the sixth inning that a run would be scored in Saturday night's affair at Myrtle Beach. Lynchburg plated three runs in the frame to take a 3-0 lead. Josh Harrison singled home Jose De Los Santos to get the Green & Gold on the board. Thanks to an error by the Pelicans the Hillcats were able to score two more runs on an RBI single by Jared Keel to push their lead to three.

Hillcats starter Rudy Owens worked five scoreless innings in his second start for Lynchburg. In his two outings in the Carolina League he has not allowed a run in nine and 1/3 innings of work. The win was the ninth straight victory for the lefty.

In the ninth inning Myrtle Beach plated a pair of run to pull within one. Cody Johnson's ground ball brought in the Pelicans first run and an error on the play by Josh Harrison allowed another run to score.

The win went to Owens (1-0) for Lynchburg (17-25, 62-49), the southpaw's first win for the Hillcats and at the Advanced-A level. R.J. Rodriguez pitched the ninth inning to earn his league-leading 23rd save of the season. The loss went to starter Richard Sullivan (2-10) for Myrtle Beach (19-22, 44-64). Sullivan has lost nine in a row as a Pelican and 10 in a row overall. His nine straight losses in the CL gives him the longest losing skid this year.

The Cats now have a two games to one advantage in the set and look for the series win on Sunday night. The fourth game of the series and final contest of a seven-game road trip is at 6:05 p.m. at BB&T Coastal Field. Lynchburg is slated to throw left-hander Jeff Locke (2-8, 5.23) to the mound opposite fellow lefty Cole Rohrbough (4-7, 6.30) for Myrtle Beach.

You can catch all the live action beginning at 5:40 p.m. with the Hillcats On-Deck Show presented by Honda/Suzuki of Lynchburg on KD Country 105.5 FM, 96.9 FM in Roanoke and on the web at www.kdcountry.com and www.lynchburg-hillcats.com.
