Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators scored three times in the 12th inning en route to a 4-1 win at New Britain in the first game of a seven-game road trip. The three run inning made a winner of Hassan Pena and hung a loss on Tyler Robertson.
Brad Meyers started for the Senators and pitched the first eight innings, allowing just a run on four hits while striking out seven. On the season Meyers has gone 29.1 innings and has not allowed a walk. The eight innings was also the longest outing of the season for the Sens.
Harrisburg broke through in the second with Tyler Moore leading off with a double and Bill Rhinehart driving him in with a single. New Britain tied the game in the sixth, then after the Sens missed on several late chances, the Sens came to life in the 12th.
New Britain committed two key errors in the 12th inning allowing runners to be on first and third with no outs. Chris Rahl then drove in a run and after a sacrifice bunt, Steve Lombardozzi drove in two with a single. The Rock Cats loaded the bases in the last of the 12th on two walks and a hit batter, but Pena was able to retire the final batter to end the game.
Rahl also made the defensive play of the game, throwing out Yangervis Solarte at home plate in the second inning preserving the tie.
Cory VanAllen pitched two perfect innings retiring all six batters he faced.
With the win, the Senators move to 11-9, two games over .500 for the first time this season. New Britain dropped to 10-9.
