Chico Outlaws News Release

Chico, CA. - The Outlaws dropped their second consecutive game to the Orange County Flyers on Saturday night at Nettleton Stadium, losing 7-4 in a game Chico led 4-3 heading into the top of the eighth inning.

It was "Headstone Giveaway Night" presented by Rose Chapel Mortuary and Crematory of Paradise, CA on Saturday night at the Nett. Fans attending the game were given foam headstones with "R.I.P. Orange County 24 July 2010" on them.

The Outlaws gave up four runs on five hits in the fateful eighth inning and fell to 4-5 for the second half of the season.y

Mark McLemore started for Chico and ended up with a no-decision after pitching six innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs before yielding to the bullpen in the seventh. Orange County opened the game with four straight hits off McLemore in the top of the first, scoring runs on RBI doubles from Jimmy Rohan and Sergio Pedroza to make it 3-0 in the visitor's favor before the home team came to bat.

Chico got one run back in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from catcher Mike Rose.

In the fourth, McLemore helped his own cause with a ground ball to shortstop Tyler Keeble that was misplayed, scoring Santo DeLeon, who walked to lead off the frame, cutting the Flyers lead to 3-2.

Flyers' starter Matt Durkin, the reigning GBL Pitcher of the Year, was injured while warming up for the home half of the fifth and was replaced by Jake Renshaw. The reliever promptly surrendered two more runs to the Outlaws in the fifth when JJ Sherrill led off with a solo blast to right, his tenth jack of the year. Mikael Jova followed with a standup double and eventually scored on a Renshaw wild pitch to give the Outlaws their first lead of the game at 4-3.

Orange County responded back in the top of the eighth when they recorded a walk and three straight hits off Outlaws reliever Josh Dew (4-1) to start the frame. After the second out, Alex Jamieson and pinch-hitter Derrek Perren came through with RBI base hits as well, plating the four earned runs and taking back the lead at 7-4.

Mike Koons (3-1) pitched a scoreless seventh inning to record the win for the Flyers. Andre Simpson earned his ninth save of the year by pitching the ninth to seal the win for Orange County.

The Outlaws and Flyers conclude their three game series on Sunday night at the Nett with Kris Honel getting the ball for Chico. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
