Chico Outlaws News Release
(Chico, CA Aug 26th, 2010) The Outlaws split a double-dip with the St George Roadrunners on Thursday night at the Nett, dropping a close one in the opener 5-4 before rebounding in the nightcap behind Blake Gailen's two homeruns to earn a 4-2 win.
Game 1:
Chico's Reed Dickert (4-5) took the loss in game one after allowing all five St George runs in the first two innings. Todd McGee (1-1) earned his first professional win going four and two-thirds innings in the seven-inning game, allowing four earned runs on nine hits, walking two and striking out one.
The Roadrunners Jason Cramer hit a solo homer in the top of the first to get the ball rolling for the visitors, his first as a pro. Alex Sumner and Mike Castellano added RBI singles and it was 3-0 St George after one inning.
Two more runs came home in the top of the second for St George off Dickert when catcher Gabe Demarco scored on a fielder's choice by Tim Rotola and McGee scored on a wild stolen base play.
Chico countered with two runs in the home half of the second when Robby Alcombrack plated John Urick on an RBI base hit after the Outlaws first baseman doubled to lead off the inning. Dickert hit a sac bunt to score Alcombrack, cutting the lead to 5-2.
The Outlaws got solo runs in the third and fifth innings, but left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh.
Chico dropped to 16-16 with the loss, while St George improved to 8-20 in the second half.
Game 2:
Outlaws starter Yosandy Ibanez fanned seven batters through four-plus innings, but had to leave the game due to injury in the fifth inning after allowing just two runs, one earned on two hits. David Dinelli and Justin Segal pitched a combined three innings of shutout ball to help the Outlaws get a 4-2 win in the nightcap at the Nett.
Center fielder Blake Gailen hit a solo homer to right to lead off the bottom of the first inning, giving Chico a 1-0 lead at that point.
St George plated solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings, taking a 2-1 advantage going into the bottom of the sixth inning.
On the first pitch of the bottom of the sixth inning, Gailen made his presence felt for the second time in the game with his second homerun over the right field fence, his seventh jack of the year, tying the game at two each. JJ Sherrill singled with one out, followed by Mitch Einertson reaching first on a Roadrunners error. First baseman Mark Samuelson hit a sac fly to left to cash in Sherrill and give the Outlaws a one-run lead. Catcher Kyle Obal, making his Outlaws debut, added insurance with an RBI single to right field, scoring Einertson for the final tally of 4-2.
Segal picked up his third win of the year, pitching two innings.
Chico is 17-16, while St George is now 8-21 for the second half.
The Outlaws continue a seven-game series with the St George Roadrunners with a single game on Friday. Mark McLemore (7-4) will be opposed by St George's Alex Foltz (0-2). First pitch is 7:05 pm.
