Denver Outlaws News Release
DENVER - Already earning national attention as a Denver Outlaw, the Tewaaraton Foundation Awards Committee announced today that Cornell graduate and Outlaws' draftee Max Seibald is the 2009 Tewaaraton Trophy winner. The Tewaaraton Trophy is collegiate lacrosse's version of the fabled Heisman Trophy and is given to the sport's top player every spring. The Tewaaraton Trophy is unique because it can be awarded to an athlete from any division of NCAA competition (Division I, II or III). Midfielder Seibald was drafted last night as the second overall pick in the 2009 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Collegiate Draft and is just three days removed from competing for the NCAA championship in Boston, Mass.
Seibald's trophy case now consists of the 2009 Enners and MacLaughlin Award (the USILA's Player and Midfielder of the Year), four consecutive years of All-American and All-Ivy League status (a first in the Ivy League) and the Loews Senior CLASS Award. He led the Big Red on a storied run to the NCAA title game this season, the first time Cornell has played for a championship in 21 years (1988). Seibald racked up 28 goals, 10 assists and 46 groundballs for his team this year to go along with two game-winning goals. His collegiate career concluded with 91 total goals, 50 assists and 157 groundballs.
You can catch Seibald and the rest of the newly drafted Denver Outlaws this Saturday when they take on the Washington Bayhawks at INVESCO Field. Face-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. MT. For more information contact the Outlaws front office at 303-OUTLAWS or visit DenverOutlaws.com
