Outlaws Lose Tight One 3-2 At The Nett; Get Swept By The Flyers

July 26, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Chico Outlaws News Release

The Outlaws lost a tight one on Sunday night at the Nett, falling 3-2 behind a sterling pitching performance from the Flyers' Jesse Smith, who went eight solid innings in recording his third win of the year.

Chico popped the cork early in the game with a run in the home half of the first on an RBI double by Mikael Jova, who was hitting .515 with runners in scoring position and two outs coming into the game.

Orange County got a run in the fifth inning after catcher Alex Jamieson hit a ground ball to second base on a drawn-in infield that was misplayed by Anthony Manuel, allowing David Harris to score from second base to tie the game at one each.

Two more runs plated off Outlaws starter Kris Honel (6-2) in the sixth inning. Former Outlaw Steve Boggs singled to lead off the inning, followed by a Derek Perren walk. Three batters later, Harris drove in both Boggs and Perren with an RBI double, giving the Flyers a 3-1 lead.

The Outlaws got to within a run in the eighth on Jova's second RBI of the night, this time a single, making the score 3-2 Orange County.

Justin Segal pitched two scoreless innings and Matt Perisho one scoreless inning in relief of Honel, while Andre Simpson pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for Orange County to get his tenth save of the year.

Chico hits the road tomorrow to start a six game road swing through Victoria and Calgary, not returning to the Nett until August 3rd when Yuma pays a visit for a three game series. The Victoria games can be listened to at http://victoriaseals.ca/ as Mike Walker brings you the action on the Victoria Seals Baseball Network.

OUTLAWS NOTES: Since the All Star break, the Outlaws are scoring two less runs per game than their season average of six runs per game....Chico had a combined 22 hits in the three game series....the series sweep of the Outlaws by the Flyers was the first time all year an opponent has accomplished the feat.
