St. George Prevents Sweep With 5-1 Win

The Tucson Toros dropped game three of their series against the St. George RoadRunners, losing 5-1 Sunday night. Tucson failed to complete the sweep, but won the series 2-1.

St. George scored early with three runs in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead after an RBI double by 1B Nick Fitzgerald and RBI singles by both SS Nick Spears and 2B C. J. Lang.

Tucson answered back in the fourth inning when Josh Womack hit a sacrifice fly RBI scoring SS Ryan Priddy to cut the lead 3-1. The Roadrunners tacked on a run in both the 5th and the 8th innings to cap the scoring at 5-1.

Toros first basemen Cristobal Santana extended his active hitting streak to 9 straight games with a single in the 6th.

Vince Davis got the start for the Toros and went 7 innings, giving up 4 earned runs on 10 hits while striking out 4. Davis took the loss to fall to 3-6 this season.

The teams will travel to St. George where the Toros will take on the RoadRunners at Bruce Hurst Stadium for a three game series beginning tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. Tucson time. Tucson will return home on July 26th for Thirsty Thursday to face host the Edmonton Capitals for a three game set..
