Edmonton Capitals News Release

Calgary, AB - Mother Nature put a stop to Monday's Golden Baseball League game between the Edmonton Capitals and the Calgary Vipers, rendering the Caps unable to avenge their heartbreaking loss from the previous night.

Calgary was hit by a severe thunderstorm early Monday evening, and after the scheduled 7:05 p.m. start time was initially delayed by rain, officials ruled the field at Foothills Stadium was unplayable, and the game was cancelled. A scheduled make-up date has not been announced yet.

The Vipers had won two of the first three games of the four-game set, winning 4-3 on Sunday afternoon thanks to a two-out rally in the ninth inning that allowed them to come back from a 3-2 deficit. Calgary remains in first place in the GBL's North Division in the second half at 9-2, while the Caps are in second at 6-2.

The series in Calgary may be over now, but the teams will play each other two more times this week back at TELUS Field on Wednesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. In addition to being Sonic Wiener Wednesday - where all Capital Dogs are just $2 - the July 28 game will also be the historic first appearance of the Caps' new mascot in the ballpark.
