Chico Outlaws News Release

Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii - Jonny Bravo pitched seven-plus strong innings and the Outlaws pounded out 13 hits en route to a 10-6 victory over the Maui Na Koa Ikaika on Friday night at Iron Maehara Stadium.

After each team scored once in the first, it was all Outlaws, as they scored in every inning except the sixth, eighth, and ninth.

The star of the night was pitcher Jonny Bravo (1-0). He pitched deep into the game, scattering seven hits over seven and one-third innings, surrendering three earned runs, while walking three and striking out seven. He also did some damage with the bat, going two for three with a walk and two runs scored, including a bases loaded RBI single in the second.

In addition to Bravo, Jay Pecci, Jake Rife, Adam Buschini, and Darrick Hale also had two hits apiece for Chico. Rife reached base in all four of his plate appearances. Bobby Hill increased his team leading RBI total to 10 with two sacrifice flies.

Maui was mostly quiet with the bats until the seventh, when former Outlaw Mitch Einerston belted a two-run shot to left in the seventh. That made it 10-6, but Maui would not get closer, as their late-inning comeback attempt fell short.

It was a sloppy game in the field, as Chico made two errors and Maui made three. The Outlaws benefited from four unearned runs and the Na Koa Ikaika had three of their own.

Maui starter Mike Koons (0-1) didn't last long and was hit hard, only going three and two-thirds, surrendering ten hits and five earned runs. Jason Roenicke pitched an inning and two-thirds of scoreless ball to close out the game for Chico. He has yet to surrender a run this season in six and two-thirds innings pitched.
