Outfielder Joe Benson Transferred to Double-A New Britain

ROCHESTER, NY - Rochester Red Wings outfielder Joe Benson today was transferred to Double-A New Britain. In addition, the Red Wings today received infielder Pedro Florimon from New Britain. Righthander Liam Hendriks and outfielder Clete Thomas today join the Red Wings from the Minnesota Twins as well.

Benson hit .179 with two homers, eight RBI, and a team-high 27 strikeouts in 28 games with the Red Wings. The 24-year-old entered the season as the Twins' No. 2 prospect according to Baseball America .

The switch-hitting Florimon batted .283 with two homers, eight RBI, and seven stolen bases in 30 games with New Britain. The 25-year-old is in his first year in the Twins organization after being claimed off waivers from Baltimore December 5, 2011.

Hendriks went 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA in four starts with the Twins. The 23-year-old spent part of the 2011 season with the Red Wings, going 4-4 with a 4.56 ERA in nine starts. He joins Brendan Wise as two Australian-born players on the roster.

Thomas started the season with the Detroit Tigers and was claimed off waivers by Minnesota April 14. The left-handed hitter batted .143 with one homer and four RBI in 12 games with the Twins before being designated for assignment.
