September 25, 2009 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Erie Otters News Release
Despite a late flurry of shots by the Erie Otters (1-2-0-1), they lost their third game in a row Friday night by the score of 3-2 against the Sarnia Sting in front of 3,019 at Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre.
Jordan Hill began the scoring for the Sting with a power play goal at the 15:44 mark of the first. Hill blasted a shot from the high slot that eluded through screens into the net. Ted Brithen added to the Sting lead with an even-strength goal 10:12 into the second.
The Otters were soon shorthanded after falling behind by two goals, but managed to convert on an odd-man rush to get on the board. Greg McKegg forced a turnover at the Erie blue line and started a breakout with Shawn Szydlowski, who fired it between the legs of Sarnia goaltender Jesse Raymond to make it a 2-1 game at 12:09.
In the third period, Brandon Alderson again made it a two-goal game for the Sting at 7:15. The Otters were able to trim the deficit to one with a power play tally with nine minutes left in regulation. Tyler Hostetter entered the zone and attempted a shot that was blocked, but the puck went right to McKegg, who shot it home to make it 3-2, the game's final score.
McKegg picked up a goal and an assist for the Otters, and also earned second star honors. Ramis Sadikov made 26 saves in a losing cause, while the Otters went 1-for-4 on the power play.
The Otters finish their road trip Saturday night for a 7:11 p.m. tilt against the Saginaw Spirit. Fans can listen to the game on Fox Sports Radio 1330AM, The Fan or on ottershockey.com, with the pre-game show starting at 7:00.
