Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
London, ON - After opening up regular season last Friday, the Mississauga St. Michael?s Majors continued their road trip with a visit to the London Knights this evening.
Emotions were running high between both squads and a familiar face was seen playing against the Majors. Former teammate Zac Rinaldo was in the lineup, this time donning a London uniform.
As the Majors were trailing by three goals heading into the final frame, the team ended up falling to the Knights 3-0 at the John Labatt Centre. Therefore, Mississauga?s record moves to 1-1-0-0 on the year.
London opened up the scoring in the 1st period when Tucker Hunter potted the first goal at 9:55 with help from Garrett Hunter and Michael MacDonald to make it 1-0 early.
Then it was Rinaldo who put the Knights up 2-0 in the 2nd period with a tally coming at 14:52. Steven Tarasuk got the lone assist on the play. Shortly after at 15:43 Michael D'Orazio put the home team ahead by another goal on the power-play. Phil Varone and Philip McRae provided the passes.
Mississauga made some fine plays in the 3rd period and put in a strong effort to get on the board. But opposing goalie Michael Hutchinson of the Knights managed to block all shots coming from the Majors in the frame to conclude with a 3-0 shutout.
Majors veteran netminder Chris Carrozzi got the start in net and made 29 saves, while Hutchinson blocked 34 shots for the Knights. Mississauga went 0 for 7 on the power-play while London finished 1 for 4 on the night. The three stars of tonight?s game were Hutchinson (1st), Tarasuk (2nd) and Erlich (3rd).
Mississauga visits the Sarnia Sting tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. Home opener takes place on Friday, October 2 against the Brampton Battalion at 7:30 p.m. A complete list of the Majors 2009-10 regular season schedule is available at the Majors website (www.stmichaelsmajors.com).
