Otters Still Control Own Fate Despite Longest Losing Streak of Season

Evansville Otters News Release
Evansville, IN- Although the Evansville Otters (48-46) are in the midst of their longest losing streak of the season, the Otters still control their own destiny as both the Rockford Aviators (48-46) and Florence Freedom (48-46) lost in their games last night.
If the season ended today the Otters would be on the road next Tuesday to play a do-or-die game against the River City Rascals who beat them 10-2 last night at Bosse Field. If all three teams (Otters, Freedom, and Aviators) are tied at the end of the season, the Otters would win the round-robin tiebreaker. That scenario would place the Florence Freedom as the sixth team in and the Aviators as the first team out of the playoffs. There is no longer a possibility of the Otters hosting a wild-card playoff game.
Although the Otters would win the tiebreaker if they ended the season tied with both the Aviators and the Freedom, if the Otters ended the season tied with just the Rockford Aviators the Otters would lose that tiebreaker because while both teams split the season series against one another, the next tiebreaker would be record against the top team in the league, which would be the Miners after their win last night. In that case the Otters dropped six of nine this season (a winning percentage of .333) to the Miners while the Aviators split their six games against the Miners (a winning percentage of .500). If the Otters ended the season tied at any of the top six spots with the Florence Freedom, the Otters would win that tiebreaker due to defeating the Freedom in four of the six games they played this summer.
Playoff Scenario
- If Three Team Tie between Otters, Freedom, and Aviators: Otters Fifth seed, Freedom Sixth Seed, Aviators out of playoffs.
- If Two Team Tie between Otters and Freedom (regardless of spot in standing): Otters Win Tiebreaker
- Â If Two Team Tie between Otters and Aviators (regardless of spot in standing): Aviators Win Tiebreaker
