Evansville Otters News Release
June 18, 2009, Evansville, Ind. - In a game that evolved from a pitcher's duel into a slugfest, the Evansville Otters were bested by the River City Rascals 10-6 Thursday night at Bosse Field. The Otters jumped out to a 2-0 lead after four innings after errors by the Rascals middle infielders allowed two runs to score.
Otters' starter Rashad Ford was masterful through the first four innings, facing the minimum 12 batters. After walking Scott Houin to lead off the game, Ford induced a double play grounder from Kevin Reynolds. Ford was perfect through the next three innings, before running into trouble in the fifth. Back to back singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out, but Jo Jo Batten popped up to second base on a 3-1 count, and Jorge Gutierrez flied out to center to end the inning. Ford allowed two runs in the sixth, his final inning of work, on a Scott Robinson RBI groundout and a wild pitch scoring Kevin Reynolds from third.
Brandon Dill came on to pitch the seventh inning, and turned a 2-2 tie into an 8-2 deficit. Chris Warters walked to lead things off, and was followed by a Batten bunt single. After Gutierrez struck out, five straight Rascals reached. Houin and Reynolds singled before Chris Colton drove in two with a double. Scott Robinson followed that up with a two-run home run over the right field fence.
The Otters clawed their way back to within 9-6 in the bottom of the eighth after a solo home run by Frank Meade and an RBI groundout by Andre Liscinsky in the seventh and an RBI single by Greg Alexander in the eighth. After three walks forced Alexander in from third base, Liscinsky came to the plate representing the go-ahead run. The shortstop, playing in his second professional game, popped out to second base.
Tyler Musselwhite (3-2) picked up the win, allowing three earned runs in 6.1 innings of work. Brandon Dill (2-2) lost for the second time in less than a week to the Rascals.
