Rockford RiverHawks News Release
SAUGET, Ill. - Mark Brackman pitched his first career complete game as the Gateway Grizzlies beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 6-1, on Thursday.
Brackman (2-3) pitched a six-hitter. He had retired 14 in a row before Robert Sabates broke the shutout with a leadoff home run in the eighth inning.
Rockford pitching combined to walk eight. Starter Mike Rogers (1-3) gave up three walks and three hits and did not record an out in the Grizzlies' five-run first inning. Charlie Lisk singled in two runs and Chad Rothford hit a three-run double to knock out Rogers.
The Rockford bullpen combined to hold the Grizzlies to a run on four hits over eight innings. Matt Enderle struck out seven over five scoreless innings.
Sabates' home run, his second of the year, landed in the hot tub beyond the right-field wall.
Jason James was 1-for-3 and extended his hitting streak to 16 games.
The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
The RiverHawks return home for a three-game series against Evansville at 4:05 p.m. Sunday as the RiverHawks celebrate Father's Day. The first 1,000 receive a RiverHawks logo baseball, great for autographs or for catch. Before the game, fathers and kids can play catch on the field. After the game, players will also autograph balls. Don't forget the early start times for Sunday games this year. As always, kids get to run the bases following Sunday games. Sponsored by OSF, Q98.5, and Fox 39.
