Otters lose in OT again

John Hecomovic scored 1:39 in to overtime to lead the Sarnia Sting to a 5-4 win over the ERIE OTTERS in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front to 5,510 at the Tullio Arena.

The loss marked the OTTERS second straight in overtime.

Michael Haley, Marco Caprara, Dan Fritsche and Daniel Sisca also scored for the Sting, who won for the fifth straight time. Hecomovic also collected two assists.

Josh Patterson, Geoff Platt, Ryan O'Marra and Tomas Galasek scored for the OTTERS.

Platt's goal extended his point-scoring streak to 11 games (10-6-16) while Rob Hisey registered an assist to move his point-scoring streak to 12 games (6-17-23).

Sarnia led 2-1 after one. The two teams were tied at four heading into the third.

The OTTERS are now 23-18-6-3 and tied for sixth in the Western Conference with Owen Sound after the Attack shaded the Saginaw Spirit 3-2 tonight.

Sarnia improved to 26-16-4-4.

The two teams finished the game even on the shot clock with 29 each. Josh Disher took the loss.

The crowd of 5,510 was the second largest at the Tullio Arena this season.

The three stars of the game were 1. Hecomovic; 2. Patterson and 3. Sisca.

The OTTERS return to action with a pair of home games Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Tullio Arena. Friday it's the OTTERS and the Plymouth Whalers (22-17-9-3 after a 3-3 overtime tie against the Toronto St. Michael's Majors tonight) presented by Nextel. The first 1,000 fans into the game receive a free OTTERS' puck courtesy of Nextel. Saturday it's the OTTERS and the Saginaw Spirit (12-34-2-3 after their loss to the Attack tonight) presented by the PA Lottery. The first 1,000 adults into the game receive a free Bonus Bucks Tickets courtesy of the PA Lottery. Tickets for both games are available at all Erie area TicketMaster locations as well as the Erie Civic Center Box Office.
