Majors Double Up Spirit

SAGINAW, MI – The Toronto St. Michael's Majors traveled to Saginaw and defeated the Spirit 4-2 this evening. With the win, their record improves to 25-17-5-2 and, coupled with the Barrie Colts' loss in Guelph, moves them into sole possession of second place in the Central Division.

Colin Power got the Majors on the board at 5:52 of the 1st period. The lone assist was credited to Connor Cameron. The Majors were outshot 10-7 in the opening frame.

Nick Lees tied the game up when he tallied for the home squad at 6:21 of the 2nd period with helpers provided by Jesse Gimblett and Georgi Misharin. However, the Majors' added two more goals before the end of the period when Tim Brent struck at 10:37 and Sal Peralta connected on the power-play at 19:05. Assists on these two goals were credited to Darryl Boyce, Ryan Wilson, Ryan Rorabeck and Brent.

The Majors increased their lead to three when Boyce contributed his 12th goal of the season, off a pass from Peralta, at 9:32 of the 3rd period. Lees provided another for the Spirit, while on the man-advantage, with 2:23 to play; helpers were credited to Adam Gibson and Gimblett. However, the home squad couldn't get any closer.

Justin Peters stood tall between the pipes for the Majors stopping 29 shots on the night. Mike Brown turned aside 21 for the Spirit. The game's three stars were Peralta (1st), Boyce (2nd) and Lees (3rd).

The Majors will visit the Plymouth Whalers tomorrow evening (Saturday, January 31st - 7:30 pm), the Windsor Spitfires on Sunday (February 1st – 2:00 pm) and the Kingston Frontenacs on Friday (February 6th – 7:30 pm) before returning home to host the Whalers on Saturday, February 7th at 2:00 pm.
