Evansville Otters News Release
The Gateway Grizzlies pounded out 20 hits in the game, scoring five times in the fifth inning as Gateway held on to beat the Evansville Otters 10-7.
The Otters got on the board in the third inning as Frank Scott laid down a perfect suicide squeeze bunt, scoring Jud Kindle to make it 1-0 Evansville.
The lead was short-lived, however, as the Grizzlies came right back with a run in the top of the fourth to make it 1-1. The Grizzlies took the lead for good the next inning as the first seven batters of the inning reached base en route to a five run inning to make it 6-1.
Evansville wasted no time in coming back scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth keyed by a Cole Hilt two-RBI single to make it 6-4. However, Gateway came back immediately with three in the top of the sixth. The Grizzlies added a run on a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning off the bat by Phil Warren to make it 10-4.
The Otters weren't done yet, though, as a Jud Kindle double in the eighth plated the Otters second and third runs of the inning making it 10-7. However, Ryan Hamilton was able to pitch the final 1.1 innings of the ballgame, keeping the Otters at bay for his first save.
Brian Kroll (1-1) took the loss for the Otters. David Smith (2-1) got the win for the Grizzlies.
Tomorrow's game features a fantastic pitching matchup as Andre Simpson (1-3) brings his 10th best ERA (2.42) in the league into the game against Brandon Smith (4-0) and his Frontier League 4th best ERA of 1.74. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
