Erie Otters News Release
The ERIE OTTERS of the Ontario Hockey League will wrap up a three game road trip beginning Thursday night when they travel to Peterborough to take on the Petes. Friday the OTTERS head to Oshawa to meet the Generals before returning home to the Tullio Arena on Saturday to face-off against the Sarnia Sting.
Last weekend the OTTERS (22-18-6-1) played their seventh set of three games in three days this season with a 1-1-1 record to move into a tie for sixth in the Western Conference playoff standings with the Owen Sound Attack (20-18-7-4). Both teams have 51 points with the OTTERS holding two games in hand.
Chris Campoli paced the OTTERS last weekend with four goals and two assists in three games. The six-point weekend allowed the veteran defenseman to establish a new franchise record for points in a season by a defenseman with 49, surpassing his own team record established last season when he recorded 48 points (on eight goals and a defense-record 40 assists) in 60 games. The 19 year-old Mississauga, Ontario native, who is now only one goal away from matching the franchise record for goals in a season by a defenseman (Carlo Colaiacovo, 14, in 2002-2003), has 13 goals and 36 assists in 46 games to rank fourth in OHL defense scoring.
The Petes (17-25-2-3) enter weekend action unbeaten in three (2-0-1) following a five game losing streak. Peterborough, who has never missed the playoffs in the storied history of the franchise, ranks ninth in the Eastern Conference, two points out of the final post-season position.
Rookie forward Liam Reddox is the Petes' leading goal-scorer and point getter with 25 goals and 48 points in 46 games this season. Brad Bonello is third in team scoring with 36 points in 40 games. The former OTTER has seven goals and 12 points in 16 games with the Petes this season.
Friday night the OTTERS face the Oshawa Generals, winners of four straight to improve to 17-21-8-1 on the season. Veteran forward Ben Eager is tied with Brandon McBride for the team lead in goals with 17. Eager is also tied with Adam Berti and Tobias Whelan for the team scoring lead, all with 34 points. Thursday and Friday's games can be heard live on SportsRadio 1330 the FAN and at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company). Thursday's game begins with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m. Friday's game starts with the pre-game show at 7:20 p.m.
The OTTERS complete the weekend Saturday night when they return home to take on the Sarnia Sting (24-16-4-4) at 7:30 p.m. at the Tullio Arena.
Heading into weekend action the Sting lead the West Division, one point ahead of the Plymouth Whalers. Overage forward Daniel Sisca is Sarnia's scoring leader with 69 points in 48 games to rank fifth in OHL scoring. Daniel Carcillo's 24 goals in 45 games are tops on the team.
The OTTERS won the first two meetings of the four-game season series against the Sting, including a 5-4 decision in their last contest December 11th in Sarnia.
Tickets for the game are available at all Erie-area TicketMaster locations as well as the Erie Civic Center Box Office. The game can also be heard live on SportsRadio 1330 the FAN and at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with pre-game show at 7:15 p.m.
