Erie Otters News Release

The Erie Otters were down by three goals and three men in the second period but the adversity would not be a problem for the Otters on the road as they defeated the Owen Sound Attack, 5-4, in a shootout Saturday night.

The Attack controlled the pace of the first period as they outshot the Otters, 17-8, in the first twenty minutes and scored twice. Steven Shipley picked up a goal on the power play at 5:21 and Garrett Wilson scored at the conclusion of a power play at 15:53 to put the home team on the board.

The Otters picked up the pace in the second period despite being outshot 15-7 thanks to their special teams. Mike Cazzola grabbed the first shorthanded goal of the period for the Otters as he finished off a two-on-one with Zack Torquato for his 36th goal of the season at 1:47.

Owen Sound rallied back with a pair of goals from Grant McGee, but the Otters would extinguish that on a shorthanded breakaway goal by Shawn Szydlowski (his 20th) at 14:30 and a power play goal on a two-man advantage by Anthony Luciani (his 35th) with one-tenth of a second remaining to make it a one-goal game heading into the third.

Torquato scored the tying goal 8:52 into the third as he took a feed from Cazzola for a breakaway and shot it between the legs of Scott Stajcer for his 30th goal of the season.

In the shootout, Shawn Szydlowski tallied the game-winner for the Otters as his shot in the third round went through the blocked side of Stajcer to give the Otters a 5-4 win.

The Otters made the comeback without the services of Brady Austin (suspended after taking off Brendon Morris' helment in last night's game), David Shields and Tyler Hostetter (each left during the first period).

Ramis Sadikov made 43 saves in a tremendous start for the Otters to deserve a hard-earned win. Greg McKegg (3a) and Cazzola (1g, 2a) each had three points for the Otters.

The Otters play their final road game of the regular season in Guelph Friday night at 7:30 p.m. against the Storm. Fans can listen to the radio broadcast on Fox Sports Radio AM 1330 The Fan or online at ottershockey.com.
